The new BYD Atto 3 EVO has arrived in New Zealand, bringing a major evolution of one of BYD’s best-known electric SUVs. While the Atto 3 EVO retains the distinctive character that made the original Atto 3 popular, it introduces significant upgrades to its drivetrain, battery technology, charging capability, performance, technology and interior.
For drivers considering their next electric SUV, the Atto 3 EVO offers more choice than ever, with three variants available in New Zealand: Dynamic, Premium and Performance.
The BYD Atto 3 EVO is the latest evolution of BYD’s popular fully electric SUV. It has been extensively updated underneath, with different battery, drivetrain and powertrain configurations depending on the model.
The NZ range starts with the Atto 3 EVO Dynamic, while the Premium introduces rear-wheel drive, a larger battery and significantly faster charging. At the top of the range, the Atto 3 EVO Performance adds dual-motor all-wheel drive and an impressive 330kW of power.
The Atto 3 EVO is available in three variants in New Zealand:
This gives buyers a choice between value, extended range and charging performance, or outright performance and all-wheel-drive capability.
One of the biggest improvements to the Atto 3 EVO is its charging technology.
The Dynamic uses a 60.48kWh BYD Blade Battery and delivers up to 420km of WLTP range, with DC fast charging up to 110kW.
The Premium and Performance use a larger 74.88kWh Blade Battery. The Premium offers up to 510km of WLTP range, while the Performance delivers up to 470km. Both support DC fast charging at up to 220kW.
That means the Atto 3 EVO Premium combines an impressive 510km driving range with charging capability that is substantially faster than the outgoing Atto 3.
For drivers wanting something more exciting, the Atto 3 EVO Performance is the standout model.
Its dual-motor all-wheel-drive system produces 330kW, with 0–100km/h taking just 3.9 seconds. That’s a substantial step up from the original Atto 3 and puts the Performance firmly into hot-hatch territory for acceleration while retaining the practicality of an electric SUV.
The Performance also retains Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, allowing the vehicle’s battery to supply power to compatible electrical equipment.
The EVO isn’t simply a cosmetic update. The new model introduces significant changes to the vehicle’s underlying engineering while also bringing updates to the cabin and technology.
Depending on the variant, the Atto 3 EVO features a larger driver display, updated infotainment and connectivity, improved charging capability and additional driver-assistance technology.
The result is a more mature and technically advanced version of the Atto 3, while retaining the distinctive design and practical SUV format that made the original model so recognisable.
Choose the Atto 3 EVO Dynamic if you’re looking for an affordable entry into the new-generation Atto 3 EVO with 420km of WLTP range.
Choose the Atto 3 EVO Premium if range and charging speed are your priorities. Its 510km WLTP range, 74.88kWh battery, rear-wheel drive and 220kW DC charging make it an especially compelling all-rounder.
Choose the Atto 3 EVO Performance if you want maximum performance. With 330kW, dual-motor AWD and a 3.9-second 0–100km/h time, it is the performance flagship of the NZ Atto 3 EVO range.
