BYD is expanding its SUV line-up, with the rugged-looking BYD Ti 7 seven-seat plug-in hybrid SUV expected to arrive in New Zealand in 2027. Combining bold, off-road-inspired styling with plug-in hybrid technology and a spacious three-row cabin, the Ti 7 could offer Kiwi families a compelling new option.
The Ti 7 is part of BYD New Zealand’s planned range expansion, giving buyers another SUV to look forward to alongside the existing BYD line-up.
The BYD Ti 7 is a large, seven-seat SUV that combines the appearance of a traditional off-roader with the more road-focused design of a modern family vehicle.
Sold in China under BYD’s Fangchengbao brand, the Ti 7 features a squared-off exterior, an upright front end, prominent wheel arches and a distinctive tailgate-mounted storage box. Its rugged styling draws comparisons with iconic off-road SUVs, while its car-based platform is designed to deliver a more comfortable, road-friendly driving experience than a traditional ladder-frame off-roader.
At approximately 5.15 metres long, the Ti 7 is larger than the BYD Sealion 8, offering three rows of seating for families who need extra passenger space.
International versions of the BYD Ti 7 use a plug-in hybrid system combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with electric motors. Reported overseas specifications indicate a combined system output of up to 300kW, with an all-wheel-drive configuration providing power to both axles.
A reported 0–100km/h acceleration time of 4.8 seconds suggests that the Ti 7 could deliver impressive performance for a large seven-seat SUV.
Overseas versions have also been reported with a 35.6kWh battery and an electric-only driving range of around 120km. This could allow some drivers to complete many everyday trips using electric power, while retaining a petrol engine for longer journeys.
As a plug-in hybrid, the Ti 7 is designed to combine electric driving with the flexibility of petrol power. However, New Zealand powertrain specifications, electric driving range and performance figures have not yet been confirmed.
Inside, the BYD Ti 7 follows a modern cabin design, with technology and comfort features aimed at making family journeys more enjoyable.
Reported international features include:
A 15.6-inch central touchscreen
A 10.25-inch digital driver’s display
Three-zone climate control
A panoramic glass roof
Heated and ventilated seats for selected seating positions
An integrated refrigerator
An 18-speaker audio system
These features are based on overseas specifications and may vary for the New Zealand market.
With three rows of seating, the Ti 7 is designed to accommodate larger families and those who regularly need additional passenger capacity. Boot space is more limited when all seven seats are in use, but folding the rear seats creates significantly more room for luggage and other gear.
The BYD Ti 7 and BYD Sealion 8 both sit in the large SUV category, but their styling gives them different personalities.
The Sealion 8 offers a sleek, contemporary SUV design, while the Ti 7 takes a more upright, rugged approach, with styling inspired by traditional off-road vehicles.
The Ti 7’s reported plug-in hybrid powertrain and three-row layout could make it an appealing alternative for buyers looking for a large family SUV with an adventurous appearance. The final New Zealand specifications will determine how the two models compare on price, range, performance and equipment.
BYD New Zealand has confirmed that the Ti 7 is included in its product pipeline for 2027. However, an exact arrival date, local model grades, pricing and final specifications have not yet been announced.
The Ti 7 is part of a wider planned expansion of BYD’s New Zealand range, with more than 15 models expected to be introduced over an 18-month period, according to BYD New Zealand.
As further information becomes available, prospective buyers will be able to learn more about the Ti 7’s local specifications, pricing and availability.
