As electric vehicle adoption continues to grow across Nelson and New Zealand, so does the need for safe, reliable and compliant EV charging infrastructure.
On Friday, BYD Nelson was proud to host a Trade Master EV Charger Testing & Maintenance workshop, bringing together 14 local electricians and Master Electricians for a full day of practical learning about EV charging systems.
The workshop combined online pre-learning with hands-on training, giving participants the opportunity to develop their knowledge of EV charger installation, testing, maintenance and safety.
EV charging equipment has specific technical and safety requirements, making specialist knowledge increasingly important for electricians working on residential, commercial and workplace charging installations.
The Trade Master course covers the practical skills required to inspect, test and maintain AC and DC EV chargers, with training aligned with relevant New Zealand standards and WorkSafe NZ guidelines.
Participants explored topics including:
The hands-on workshop gave participants the chance to put this knowledge into practice through simulated testing and fault-finding scenarios.
For EV owners, having access to qualified electrical professionals who understand EV charging is an important part of making the transition to electric driving.
A correctly installed and maintained home or workplace charger provides a safe and reliable way to charge an EV, while helping ensure the electrical installation meets the relevant requirements.
With more electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles arriving on New Zealand roads, the demand for knowledgeable EV charging specialists is only expected to increase.
At BYD Nelson, we see every day how quickly EV technology is developing. Supporting the people responsible for the infrastructure behind that technology is an important part of growing a strong local EV ecosystem.
We were proud to provide the venue for Friday’s workshop and welcome 14 local electrical professionals to our showroom as they expanded their knowledge of EV charging technology.
As more Nelson and Tasman drivers make the switch to electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, collaboration between vehicle manufacturers, electricians and the wider automotive industry will help ensure the region is ready for an increasingly electric future.
